FICCTION

Université Côte d'Azur is particularly honored to have been awarded a “Culture” grant under the France 2030 program for its FICCTION project (Federation of the Cultural and Creative Industries for a Territory of Innovation and Orientation). This project is one of 19 selected from among 300 submitted.

The announcement was made on June 1, 2023, by Rima Abdul Malak, Minister of Culture, and Bruno Bonnell, Secretary General for Investment, in charge of France 2030. Representatives of cultural institutions and cultural entrepreneurs were also present to hear an initial assessment of the France 2030 program and prospects in the light of recent technological upheavals and the climate challenge.

This project, coordinated by Université Côte d'Azur, is supported by the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur Region's Campus of Trades and Qualifications for the Cultural and Creative Industries (CMQe ICC) and is led by Professor Jean François Trubert (Graduate School Arts & Humanities - CREATES). Partners include the regional academic rectorate, the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur region, the region's four universities (Université Côte d'Azur, Aix Marseille Université, Avignon Université and Toulon Université), the Regional Direction of Cutlural Affairs, as well as local public authorites and companies (Provence Studios and Adastra films) and their operator, INA, and more than twenty non-profit and private partners. The project was also backed by the Tourism and Creative Industries program of the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur Region.

Its purpose is to create an unprecedented network throughout the region around mature institutions and flagship locations such as the Villa Créative in Avignon, the Campus Méliès in Cannes, the Studios de la Victorine in Nice, and training, creation and distribution platforms of the CISAM+ network, namely the Arles hub, IMERA and Turbulences in Marseille, the CUBE and Hôtel Maynier d'Oppède in Aix-en-Provence, the SATIS hub in Aubagne, and finally the Telomedia platform in Toulon.

A project in the audiovisual and performing arts sectors

FICCTION is a region-wide project in the audiovisual and live performance sectors that addresses the major challenges of France 2030:
•    EDUCATION: 27 innovative educational initiatives will be introduced throughout the region to develop skills in short-staffed trades and fields, meet future job needs and contribute to strong growth in the CCI sector.
•    INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH: boosted by its innovations in the CCI sectors and backed by European CCI networks and structures, such as the EIT Culture and Creativity, FICCTION will implement several actions to promote its international outreach.
•    REGIONAL ROOTS: as it implements research and development initiatives, technical platforms and key initiatives to raise awareness about career opportunities in the field, FICCTION will irrigate the entire PACA region and unite a wide community.
•    INNOVATION: Actions will be carried out to support the digital transition and the new challenges of creation, techniques and knowledge.
•    EMPOWERMENT: FICCTION aims to make CCIs a model for other sectors in social, societal and environmental responsibility, and its concern for gender issues, gender equality and local inclusion. Several actions will be developed to raise awareness about CSR issues throughout the CMQe ICC network and its consortium.
Today, interdisciplinary knowledge is needed to experiment with new models of creativity. The traditional idea that each degree leads to a specific job is progressively disappearing. Thus, the need for a vision focused on skills and employability in addition to the emphasis on a degree and job is central to the project. The development of entrepreneurial and management jobs calls for new cross-sectoral skills in financial administration, taxation, non-profit and company law, labor law or even intellectual property law and creativity.
