Université Côte d'Azur is very proud to announce its partnership with the Cannes Film Festival in a brand new competition dedicated to immersive works.

Today, the Cannes Film Festival is the world's most prestigious cinematographic gathering and cultural event, and a meeting place for over 12,400 industry professionals.

This year, the Cannes Film Festival returns with the creation of a new "Immersive Competition" designed to showcase this new generation of international artists who are inventing and developing new narrative experiences. This is a real opportunity for the "Extended Reality Research and Creative Center" (XR2C2) - supported by EUR Arts et Humanités and theInitiative d'Excellence d'Université Côté d'Azur - since a partnership agreement between the Marché du Film and Université Côte d'Azur has just been signed.

XR2C2,whichis positioned in the field of creative industries and more specifically augmented reality, is conducive to the emergence of a genuine dynamic of innovative partnerships, and will hostone of the 8 immersive works in competition, which festival-goers will be able to admire on Le Grand Plateau on the Georges Méliès university campus for the duration of the competition from May 15 to 24, 2024..

This collaboration, which includes the provision of premises and interns, will also be an opportunity for the XR2C2 Reference Center teams to take part as experts in conferences dedicated to the cultural and creative industries, and to present in particular theHorizon Europe project entitled REBOOT, in which Université Côte d'Azur is developing a research project around the Virtual Reality (VR; led by Marcin Sobieszsanski) and audio spatial mixing (led by Julie Mansion Vaquié and Jean-François Trubert) for film music.

XR2C2 consolidates the multidisciplinary activities of 13 Université Côte d'Azur laboratories in the field of extended realities. Its mission is to act as a structuring hub for initiatives linked to immersive environments in the fields of artistic creation, media studies, health and information and communication sciences and technologies. Industrial players, as well as those involved in teaching and research in this field, have access to a platform of technologies, skills and knowledge based on the Georges Méliès Campus in Cannes.
