From June 2 to 13, 2025, the city of Nice will host the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), co-organized by France and Costa Rica. On this occasion, Université Côte d'Azur's commitment is illustrated on many levels, first and foremost through its academic and student community.
Mobilized in the spaces dedicated to official negotiations (blue zone), in the spaces dedicated to civil society (green zone), as well as on the University campuses dedicated to the event, Université Côte d'Azur has a cross-cutting vision based on science and cooperation between all players, in the service of joint action in favor of the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans.Université Côte d'Azur's cross-disciplinary vision is based on science and cooperation between all players, in the service of joint action for the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans.
Research at the heart of scientific and diplomatic exchanges
Université Côte d'Azur is an official partner of the One Ocean Science Congress (OOSC), a scientific summit organized from June 3 to 6 ahead of the negotiations. The aim of the congress is to lay the scientific foundations for future political decisions. Scientists from all disciplines, as well as many young researchers, are taking an active part in the congress.President Jeanick Brisswalter is heading the Université Côte d'Azur delegation to the United Nations summit (UNOC3) from June 9 to 13, where two of our scientists, Jean-Christophe Martin, a specialist in the international law of the sea, will be attending.cialiste de droit international de la mer, and Cécile Sabourault, Vice-Présidente Développement International et Europe and Director of the ECOSEAS marine ecology laboratory. Their participation testifies to Université Côte d'Azur's recognized expertise in major marine issues.
In line with its strategy at recent Conferences of the Parties (COP), Université Côte d'Azur is using science as a lever for global diplomacy, consolidating its role in adaptation and sustainable development.le in adaptation and mitigation in connection with the socio-environmental transition, on its territory, in the Mediterranean and beyond. On these issues, Université Côte d'Azur is also committed to the Ocean Climate Platform and IPOS, of which it is an active member.
In order to ensure an inclusive representation at this global event, Université Côte d'Azur is supporting the hosting and participation of several of its partners (scientific or civil society), particularly from southern countries (East Africa, Central America).
A rich public program rooted in local communities
Both in the Green Zone and on its campuses, Université Côte d'Azur offers a series of events open to all, in a variety of formats: popularization conferences, screenings, debates, workshops, artistic performances... Our strong links with Costa Rica, the country co-hosting UNOC3 alongside France, through partnerships with several Costa Rican universities, give rise to a number of highlights during UNOC3.
