A team of scientists from INRAE, in collaboration with Université Côte d’Azur and Nanjing Agricultural University, has identified the sex pheromone and its olfactory receptors in the lily moth using an innovative approach based on artificial intelligence. These findings, published in September 2026 in the journal BMC Biology as part of the EXPLOR’AE program, could strengthen the biocontrol strategies already in use to protect crops.

This research, conducted in collaboration with Sébastien Fiorrucci’s team at the Nice Institute of Chemistry (Université Côte d'Azur, CNRS), opens up new avenues for identifying pheromones in other species.
