on the May 21, 2026
From June 9 to 11, 2026, Université Côte d'Azur will host the next edition of the National Observatory Days (JNO), organized jointly with Résosup. This edition holds special significance as it will mark the 20th anniversary of Résosup.
As the annual gathering of observatories and statistical services in higher education and research, these conferences provide a unique forum for discussion, the sharing of experiences, and collective reflection.
The 2026 JNO conferences will center their discussions on the governance of higher education and research institutions in a context of increased autonomy, with a particular focus on data-driven management of academic programs. The Training, Employment, and Professional Integration Department of the DGESIP and the Director of the Training Department at HCERES will speak during the plenary sessions, as will several researchers whose work sheds light on and highlights the practices of observatories and similar services at the local level. The program thus alternates between expert presentations, feedback sessions, collaborative workshops, and research presentations.
The five themes at the heart of Wednesday’s workshops
- Ghost students—Who are these students who are enrolled but absent from classes and exams, or present without truly being there? The workshops will address the definition of this group and its impact on program management, as well as its identification within information systems.
- Decision Support Systems (DSS) - Demonstrations and feedback on decision-making tools (Sirocco, etc.), knowledge sharing, and reflections on key indicators and program-specific dimensions to be integrated into DSS.
- The appeal of training programs & understanding student populations, with a focus on the transition from high school to higher education: analysis of Parcoursup data, candidate profiles, and understanding the demographics of new entrants.
- Tracking student pathways—dropouts, reorientation, LAS pathways, graduates without degrees. The workshops will explore pathways of discontinuation and cohort tracking using SISE data at the national level.
- Expertise & methodology of the observatories - How does the institutional context influence the work of the Student Life Observatories (OVE)? Production of indicators, positioning of the structure within the institution, translation of governance needs into appropriate analytical methods.
