Nucleate France UniCA is a start-up acceleration program designed to help student entrepreneurs realize their life science projects. The first French branch was inaugurated in Nice on May 28 by Université Côte d'Azur, with support from its Excellence Initiative.
Nucleate is an organization dedicated to helping students prepare for professional careers in the biotech sector. Founded as part of Harvard University's Biotechnology Club, Nucleate quickly spread its influence across the USA, Europe and Asia, attracting a wide academic and professional audience. Its French branch, Nucleate France UniCA, was officially inaugurated in Nice on May 28 with the support of the Université Côte d'Azur Excellence Initiative.
The event was orchestrated by Sophie Demolombe, CNRS Research Director, co-director of the LIFE & HEALTH Sciences University Research School and Director of Nucleate France UniCA.
The inauguration ceremony began with a round-table discussion entitled "Business creation in the life sciences: empowering PhD entrepreneurs", with the participation of Sylvain Antoniotti, Vice-President of the Initiative d'Excellence d'Université Côte d'Azur, Heer Joisher and Julia Zhao of Nucleate Headquarters, Sofiane Haris, Project Manager of the Pôle Universitaire MED'INNOV, Olga Pabion, Operational Director of the Pôle Universitaire MED'INNOV, Laurent Masson, Director of the PCA Incubator, and the Nucleate leadership team.
Activator: the heart of the initiative
The Activator is an intensive five-month program offering student entrepreneurs personalized support, resources tailored to their technologies, and privileged access to a vast professional network. By facilitating connections with mentors, investors and potential partners, the program helps turn ideas into viable businesses. This initiative creates a dynamic ecosystem in the biotech sector that fosters close collaboration between academia and the private sector.
Strengthening links between the academic and private sectors
Nucleate France UniCA strives to build strong bridges between Université Côte d'Azur and the private sector on the Côte d'Azur, stimulating the creation of start-ups in life sciences and eco-technologies. By informing doctoral and post-graduate students about career opportunities beyond academic research, Nucleate aims to enrich the local innovation ecosystem and enhance students' employability by providing them with new skills. Initiatives such as the Insight Series, monthly meetings with experts, and the Alternative Career Pathways, which offer career advice, are key to achieving this goal.
A dynamic innovation network
The Activator 2024-2025 program, officially launched on May 28, 2024 in Nice, will be accompanied by an awareness and registration campaign. The aim is to create a dynamic innovation network, facilitating knowledge transfer between the university and the private sector. At the same time, Nucleate will continue to expand its range of training courses and seminars, strengthening the network between students, startups, companies and investors.
