Noise in open spaces: an invisible problem

Noise in open spaces is too often reduced to a mere annoyance, when in fact it has a direct impact on our concentration, memory and well-being. In this episode, we welcome Édith Galy, researcher at the LAPCOS laboratory and lecturer at theEUR Ecosystèmes des Sciences de la santé, who studies theimpact of noise at work. Together, we discuss how some sounds are more disruptive than others, particularly intelligible speech, and the consequences for concentration, memory and mental fatigue. Édith discusses her research and what studies carried out on employees reveal. We also look at the differences in sensitivity between individuals and the possible effects on long-term health. Finally, we explore the solutions that exist to limit the influence of noise, whether through space planning, individual strategies or new work practices.
