Lindau 2025
As a postdoctoral fellow at the Institut de Chimie de Nice, Anna Lesiak took part in one of the world's most prestigious scientific gatherings: the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings 2025. For almost a week on the shores of Lake Constance, Anna was able to exchange ideas with Nobel Prize winners. She shares with us her experience, marked by conferences, exceptional encounters and unforgettable moments.
From June 29 to July 4, 2025, Anna Lesiak, postdoctoral fellow at the Institut de Chimie de Nice, took part in the 74th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings 2025, dedicated to chemistry. This scientific event, one of the most prestigious in the world, was held on the picturesque Lake Constance in Germany.
The 2025 edition welcomed 606 young scientists from nearly 100 countries and more than 30 Nobel Prize laureates. France was represented by 11 young scientists, selected after a particularly demanding selection process.
On the first day of the event, the delegation was invited to a celebratory lunch in the presence of the French Consul General in Bavaria, Mr. Alexandre A. Vulic, and Dr. Emmanuel Delill, attaché for scientific and academic cooperation. The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the role of science in modern society.
Taking part in Lindau was not only the fulfillment of a scientific dream for me, but above all a unique opportunity to talk with some of the brightest minds of our time and with young scientists from all over the world. The exchange of ideas, inspiring lectures and after-hours conversations reminded me that science is global in nature, and has enormous power to change the world for the better. Meeting Nobel Prize laureates was also a unique experience - they are lovely people, full of passion, whose career paths resemble in many ways those we are following today as young scientists," testifies Anna Lesiak. The dense and stimulating program offered a wide range of activities: lectures by Nobel laureates, round-table discussions, presentations by young scientists,Agora Talks sessions and themed meetings on issues such as sustainability, the circular economy, revolutionary microscopy techniques or artificial intelligence in science.
Anna Lesiak Among Anna Lesiak's most memorable moments were her meetings and exchanges with Nobel Prize winners such as Ben Feringa, Reinhard Genzel, David MacMillan, Jean-Pierre Sauvage, Stefan W. Hell, John Jumper and Morten Meldal.
A particular memory: lunch with Professor Bawendi, during which Anna was able to discuss quantum dots, a subject at the heart of her PhD, inspired by the Nobel Prize winner's publications . It's one of those encounters you remember for the rest of your life," confides Anna Lesiak.
The event was also punctuated by professional highlights such as round-table discussions, focusing in particular on the obstacles faced by young scientists, and more informal moments. These included breakfasts with event partners such as Mars, the Austrian Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research, and a picnic on the picturesque island of Mainau.
Lindau is not just about science, it's also about values: openness, diversity, intercultural dialogue and a shared desire to build a better future. I've come away from this meeting with new energy, new contacts and new ideas for the future of my scientific work," concludes Anna Lesiak.
Dr Lesiak's participation in the meeting was made possible thanks to the financial support of Université Côte d'Azur - Action Idex: Ecole Universitaire de Recherche SPECTRUM
