Sharing science and research with the Côte d'Azur community is the aim of a project run by the Université Côte d'Azur and its partners, which was awarded the "Science with and for Society (SAPS)" label by the MESR on June 29, 2024. This 3-year label is accompanied by funding of 720,000 euros, and will enable the project to implement scientific mediation initiatives for the public on the Côte d'Azur.
The project co-sponsors are :

- the Université Côte d'Azur Inria Center,
- the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur regionalgation régionale Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur et Corse de l'Inserm,
- IRD's Sud-Est regional delegation,
-Sophia Antipolis delegation of Mines PARIS-PSL
- Institut de la Mer de Villefranche sur mer (CNRS, Sorbonne Université)
For over twenty years, researchers have been working with passion and determination to spread scientific culture throughout the Côte d'Azur. In recent years, Université Côte d'Azur has embarked on a strong territorial transformation in the service of society, driven by its Initiative d'excellence and pursued through structured projects.excellence initiative and continued through successive structuring projects (3IA Côte d'Azur, Pôle Universitaire d'Innovation Med'Innov, Université européenne Ulysseus, etc.). The Côte d'Azur's dynamism in research and innovation has earned it international recognition in several fields of excellence.
The "Science Avec et Pour la Société" label enables the Université Côte d'Azur and its partners, united by a common strategy, to respond to the current challenges of :
- enabling society to discover, understand and contribute to science and research projects carried out in the region
- provide access to fundamental and new scientific knowledge for the general public;
- share methods of logical and reasoned reasoning, so that everyone can form their own opinion based on a knowledge and appreciation of the facts.knowledge and appreciation of scientific facts, and to be in a position to make informed decisions in line with societal developments.
Actions at the service of local citizens
The SCIENCE AZUR project represents a decisive step towards strengthening, diversifying and extending the site policy to other players in the Alpes-Maritimes region, with the shared aim of increasing the impact and efficiency of SAPS actions on the Côte d'Azur. This label should enable the majority of citizens to distinguish between knowledge and belief, and to learn to critical thinking in the face of misinformation, and thus be able to make informed decisions independently.
The jury appreciated the objectives [of the] Science Azur project, which, in conjunction with the actions undertaken by the Université Côte d'Azur's Initiative d'excellenceAzur's Initiative of Excellence and the site's other structuring projects, identifies the key actions to be strengthened or deployed as part of an impactful and committed science, research and society strategy.
