French startup DareWin Evolution, backed by the Université Côte d'Azur's Initiative d'Excellence (IdEx), has been selected as one of seven innovative companies in the second round of Big Idea Ventures' Global Food Innovation (GFIF II) investment fund.

A fund dedicated to sustainable food innovation

GFIF II is an international fund that supports innovative, sustainable solutions in the food sector - alternative proteins, new ingredients, natural flavors and more. It operates through direct investments or an acceleration program, with the support of leading industrial partners such as AAK and Bühler.

Boosting DareWin Evolution's commercial development

This round of funding will enable DareWin Evolution, which specializes in optimizing microalgae production processes, to benefit from both financing and strategic support to accelerate the rollout of its new product.to accelerate the deployment of its commercial activity and the development of its directed evolution platform, based onartificial intelligence and dynamic selection tools.

The startup was supported by theIdEx of Université Côte d'Azur, as part of its "Start-Up Deeptech" call for projects . This scheme aims to support the valorization of scientific and technological assets from IdEx partner laboratories, with a view to promoting the creation of innovative "DeepTech" companies.

About DareWin Evolution

Marine biotechnologies are booming: this fast-growing market contributes to a sustainable economy. In this context, the development of microalgae is an essential and promising sector. It is therefore crucial to select the most effective micro-organisms. DareWin Evolution uses a new and innovative approach to dynamic Darwinian selection to boost the productivity of microalgae for the production of molecules of interest.

In partnership with the Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (Inria), the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and Sorbonne University, we have been optimizing our selection methods for over 10 years, with highly promising results. Thanks to our proof of concept, we have demonstrated that it is possible to double the pigment content and triple the Omega-3 (DHA) content with several types of microalgae - both autotrophic and heterotrophic.

Our ambition is to be to microalgae what seed companies are to modern agriculture. Through natural strain selection, DareWin Evolution aims to become the key to unlocking the full potential of microalgae.
