Protecting the oceans and regulating their use are key international concerns. Université Côte d'Azur's Master 2 in Law of the Sea and Maritime Activities prepares future experts in maritime law, at the crossroads of legal, environmental and economic issues.
"The program fully meets the challenges of sustainable ocean governance highlighted at the United Nations Conference on the Oceans (UNOC3), particularly in terms of protecting marine biodiversity, regulating uses, and developing a sustainable blue economy. "Anaïs Lagelle, training manager.
A program at the heart of international law and contemporary challenges
This Master's program emphasizes the complexity of the law applicable to marine areas. It is based on a multi-dimensional legal approach, at the crossroads of international law (in particular the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea - UNCLOS), European law and national regulations. The courses cover in particular :
preserving the marine environment in the face of growing economic pressures (transport, fishing, marine energies, tourism),
regulation of maritime activities in the context of climate change,
topical issues such as the high seas, marine protected areas and the fight against plastic pollution.
Committed students, high-impact careers
The course is designed to develop specialized skills in maritime litigation, legal expertise in the use of the sea, and strategic advice to institutional and economic players in the sector. This specialization is aimed at students with a solid legal background (international law, public law, environmental law, European law), and a strong interest in maritime and coastal issues.
Graduates can choose from a wide range of careers:
as lawyers in local authorities or government departments,
legal executives in the shipping, logistics or MRE sectors,
specialized lawyer, consultant or researcher in maritime law
"We train lawyers capable of handling maritime litigation, advising public institutions or companies in the sector, or contributing to international ocean governance. ".
A training program in tune with the realities on the ground
Backed by a network of public and private partners, the Master's program is firmly rooted in Mediterranean issues.
"This immersion in the practical realities of the sea is one of the strengths of the course. "
Professionals from the maritime sector are regularly involved in seminars and tutored projects. The compulsory internship, often carried out in specialized institutions or companies, facilitates students' professional integration and exposes them to the concrete realities of the sector.
