Ulysseus Summit 2024 in Nice: a European meeting on innovation and collaboration

On November 13 and 14, 2024, university leaders, researchers and experts from all over Europe gathered at Université Côte d'Azur's Valrose campus in Nice for the Ulysseus Summit, the annual flagship event of the Ulysseus European University Alliance. This face-to-face gathering reinforces the alliance's commitment to creating a European university model that fosters cooperation, research and innovation, while emphasizing social inclusion and public engagement. Participants included representatives from eight European universities collaborating to promote the Ulysseus mission: to build a resilient and interconnected European academic community.
Fostering innovation in education and research
The summit program included presentations from the heads of Ulysseus work packages, who outlined advances in educational innovation, research development and public engagement. Key figures such as Jeanick Brisswalter, President of the Université Côte d'Azur, Miguel Ángel Castro, Rector of the University of Seville, and Carmen Vargas, General Coordinator of Ulysseus, also took part.Carmen Vargas, general coordinator of Ulysseus, welcomed all participants before the start of presentations on transformative projects designed to connect Ulysseus partner institutions.
The sessions covered advances in education, research and innovation, highlighting initiatives to promote cross-border research collaboration and joint academic projects.

UlySA: The first official Ulysseus student association presented in Nice

On the second day of the Summit, students from the European University Alliance officially presented the Ulysseus Student Association (UlySA). The presentation marked the launch of the first official student-run association within Ulysseus. The pioneering initiative aims to encourage the active participation of students in Ulysseus projects and decision-making processes. Conceived as part of a new student-centered approach, UlySA symbolizes the beginning of a closer collaboration between Ulysseus and its student community.
The launch of UlySA at the Summit marks an important step in Ulysseus' commitment to promoting student leadership and active participation. As students continue to debate and refine the governance of UlySA, they are laying the groundwork for a dynamic, student-centered association that can adapt and respond to the needs of the community it represents.
