The presidential delegates of the U7+ Alliance met on January 26 and 27 in Sendai, Japan, at the invitation of Tohoku University. In its capacity as Secretary General of the Alliance, Université Côte d'Azur participated in the meeting, alongside some forty representatives from other member universities of the Alliance.

The purpose of this meeting was to prepare for the U7+ Presidents' Summit in Paris in April 2026, seven years after the first Paris summit that marked the birth of the Alliance as part of the 2019 G7. Delegates worked together on the key themes of the upcoming summit, which are already being addressed by working groups throughout the year:
  • The role of universities in the face of rapid global change and its profound consequences
  • Artificial intelligence, particularly its ethical and security dimensions,
  • Climate change through participation in the Climate COP, sharing best practices, strategies, and policies, and enhanced cooperation between member universities.
In Sendai, there was also a strong focus on strengthening the Alliance's impact, given the international context and threats to higher education, research, and multilateralism around the world.

Involved in U7+ with the mission of coordinating the various projects carried out within it, Université Côte d'Azur wishes to continue to strengthen the Alliance's influence and visibility so that it can establish itself as a reference organization for the G7, as well as for governments and structures committed to defending the place of science and multilateralism in the world to come.

About the U7+ Alliance

The U7+ Alliance brings together, at the presidential level, 50 universities committed to addressing contemporary challenges such as climate change, the protection of democracies and multilateralism, access to education, and peace and security. These institutions of excellence, which are driving forces in their respective countries (G7 and 12 other countries), make joint commitments and prepare recommendations for the G7.
