In partnership with Le Hublot, the ProPhilia Festival will present an exhibition of the immersive sound installation "Voices of Fragments: Making Memories Out of a Difficult Heritage" by Rosa Cinelli and Maxence Mercier from March 24 to March 27.

Voices of Fragments is a research-creation project that presents an immersive sound installation designed to explore, through listening and wandering, the archives of the V13 trial related to the November 13, 2015, attacks. Developed as part of the PhD Lab at the XR2C2 Research and Creation Center, the project aims to make research on a “difficult” and sensitive heritage accessible to the public, while respecting its protocols for protection, mediation, and confidentiality.

The installation depicts the journey of an imaginary researcher approaching a monumental, “extraordinary” archive, part of whose audiovisual records is destined to remain under institutional secrecy for decades. This imposed distance is not an obstacle: it becomes the very substance of the work. Rather than “showing” the archive, Voices of Fragments seeks to make its contours felt—its thresholds, its procedures, its mediations—and to make perceptible the often-invisible work of those who handle it, classify it, and make it accessible.

The Artists

  • Rosa Cinelli earned a PhD in Philosophy and Information and Communication Sciences through an international joint supervision program between the University of Milan and the Université Côte d’Azur. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Paris 8 University. Her research focuses on the use of images as documentary and forensic evidence, from photography to virtual reality.
  • Maxence Mercier is a composer, visual artist, and holds a doctorate in performing arts. His research explores the creative spaces of sound spatialization. His artistic projects confront the dimensions of sound composition with ecological challenges and foster the development of virtuous innovations that prioritize technological restraint.
