As part of the Plan Sud Ingénieurs initiative, the Région Sud is awarding a grant of €800,000 to Polytech Nice Sophia, the engineering school of Université Côte d’Azur. Ranked as the top engineering school in the South Region in L’Étudiant’s 2026 rankings, Polytech Nice Sophia thus confirms its leading role in engineering education and its contribution to the region’s scientific and economic development.

This support is part of the plan adopted in October 2024, which aims to train an additional 1,000 engineers per year by 2030 to meet the region’s needs. The regional assessment is clear:

  • 7,800 annual job openings for engineers in the South Region,
  • 66% recruitment shortage.

In 2025, Polytech Nice Sophia graduated 334 engineers, confirming its central role in the regional ecosystem. Furthermore, the school was ranked the top engineering school in the South Region in L’Étudiant’s 2026 rankings, reinforcing its position as an academic and scientific leader in the region.

A strategic investment to adapt programs to technological challenges

Polytech Nice Sophia has presented a comprehensive program of scientific equipment representing a total investment of €1 million (€989,295 to be exact).
These investments focus on the fields of artificial intelligence, energy, robotics, and biotechnology. They aim to:
• train engineers who can be immediately deployed by companies,
• accelerate graduates’ ability to join cutting-edge technology project teams,
• bring new scientific and technical skills to companies.
The support from the Sud Region thus strengthens the alignment between skills needs and economic dynamics, while maintaining high academic standards.

Train more, train better

This funding confirms the recognition of Polytech Nice Sophia’s strategic role in the expansion of engineering education in the South Region.
Through this commitment, the South Region affirms a shared ambition: to increase the number of engineers trained to the highest standards in science and technology, in support of the region’s attractiveness and competitiveness.

“With the Plan Sud Ingénieurs, we are investing €800,000 in Polytech Nice Sophia to enable our young people to train in the technologies of today and tomorrow. This is a concrete response to the needs of businesses and a powerful driver for employment and the attractiveness of our region,” stated Renaud MUSELIER, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region and Deputy President of Régions de France.

“The €800,000 grant awarded to Polytech Nice Sophia is a strong recognition of the excellence of our engineering school and its strategic role for the region. Through this investment, Université Côte d’Azur is strengthening its capacity to train more engineers who are immediately ready for the workforce in fields critical to our region. It is a concrete lever for addressing skills needs and supporting regional technological transformations.” Jeanick Brisswalter, President of Université Côte d’Azur

“Polytech Nice Sophia is fully aligned with the Plan Sud Ingénieurs initiative led by the Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region. Through this initiative, the school is modernizing its programs, strengthening its technology platforms, and tailoring its curricula to the needs of local businesses. In this way, it is helping to train engineers capable of supporting digital, industrial, and environmental transitions in the region.” Alexandre Caminada, Director of Polytech Nice Sophia.
