Release of the "Science Azur guide", for those curious about science

The new Science Azur guide is now available online and at all tourist offices along the French Riviera. Published on July 16, 2026, this booklet invites travelers to explore the French Riviera through the lens of science: its famous figures, its rich scientific heritage, and its laboratories, which are world-renowned for their discoveries.
The purpose of this guide is to invite the public to rediscover the French Riviera through its scientific heritage via 15 themed itineraries. It recounts the major discoveries that have shaped the region’s scientific history, the research conducted in our laboratories on the French Riviera to address major contemporary challenges, and the venues for science outreach open to the public.
In the guide’s introduction, Jeanick Brisswalter, president of Université Côte d’Azur, reminds us that “The French Riviera is a region we think we know well. Yet behind its landscapes, museums, gardens, islands, and villages lie decades of scientific discoveries, innovations, and research that help us better understand our world. (..) Because understanding the research conducted right in our own backyard also means gaining a better grasp of the challenges facing our societies and recognizing just how much knowledge constitutes a common good.”
Supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Space as part of the SCIENCE AZUR project, which holds the “Science With and For Society” (SAPS) label, this scientific travel guide is jointly produced by the nine research institutions on the Côte d’Azur: Université Côte d’Azur, Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur, CNRS, INRAE, Inria, Inserm, IRD, Mines Paris – PSL, and IMEV.
