Classified as a historic monument since 1991 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Valrose ISBA now benefits from the support of the Heritage Lottery.

ISBA: a historic monument in the heart of Valrose

The ISBA at Valrose is a historic wooden chalet built in the grounds of the Domaine de Valrose between 1871 and 1881, at the request of the estate's owner, Baron von Derwies. Transported from Odessa in pieces, the ISBA represents a rare example of traditional Ukrainian housing preserved in France.

Essential restoration

Weakened by time, the ISBA is now in a state of disrepair, with ruined balconies, decayed logs and missing friezes. The restoration project aims to save the old structures, renovate the roof, restore the lost decor and bring the technical equipment up to standard. The renovation is accompanied by a program of cultural enhancement: guided tours, events, opening the site to the university, local and tourist community.

Loto du Patrimoine: strong support for heritage preservation

Created in 2018 at the instigation of Stéphane Bern, the Loto du Patrimoine identifies and supports endangered monuments every year. The funds raised by the national lottery, operated by FDJ UNITED, are donated to the Fondation du Patrimoine to finance exemplary restorations.

Why and how was ISBA selected?

The ISBA was chosen by the Loto du Patrimoine selection committee because of its exceptional heritage interest, the critical situation of its conservation and its strong cultural and territorial impact. The following factors were taken into account: the urgency of the restoration, the maturity of the project, and the ability to mobilize local players around heritage. The rarity of the building, its historical and architectural value, and its role in the development of the Domaine de Valrose and Université Côte d'Azur, were decisive factors in its selection.

National recognition for ISBA

The support of the Loto du Patrimoine represents national recognition and provides crucial financial backing for the restoration of the ISBA. This partnership will speed up the restoration work, safeguard this unique building and make it more accessible to the public.
