Jeanick Brisswalter was re-elected President of Université Côte d'Azur on Tuesday January 9, 2024 by the members of the Board of Directors on the first ballot for a 4-year term, with 27 votes out of 36. He will be surrounded by a team of vice-presidents and project managers who will be appointed in the coming days.

Following the elections to the University's two councils, which gave a majority of votes (55%) to the C.A.R.E list (Pour un Projet d'Université Collectif, Ambitieux, Responsable et Engagé) but a tie on the Board of Directors, two candidates were declared: Jeanick Brisswalter, leader of the C.A.R.E list and candidate for his own succession, and Luc Pronzato, leader of the Service Public et Démocratie Universitaire - SPDU list.

His second term as President will see him continue the momentum created over the past 4 years by the current governance team, positioning Université Côte d'Azur as a major player in the Côte d'Azur region.Azur as a major player in the Côte d'Azur region, and an internationally recognized university with the highest standards in all its missions.
The new policy will be based on 4 main pillars:
- Strengthening the role of the University Research Schools (EUR), which are at the heart of the organization, and the dynamic links with the other Components and Component Establishments to secure and enrich our students' career paths;
- Pursue internally and increase externally the University's actions and commitment to the major challenges facing our societies, notably public health, digital technologies and socio-environmental transitions;
- Strengthen the Université Côte d'Azur's position in the region as a hub for dialogue between science and society, and for the training of open-minded, critical citizens;
- Amplify awareness of the entrepreneurial spirit among our students, with over 2,000 students trained in student entrepreneurship by 2020, and develop the innovation continuum from students to researchers.


Jeanick Brisswalter's biography

Jeanick Brisswalter has been a university professor since 1996. After completing a doctorate in physiology at the Paris V Adaptation Physiology Laboratory, specializing in exercise physiology applied to high-level sport, he began his career as a researcher with the research mission of the Institut National du Sport de l'Expertise et de la Performance (INSEP). He then joined the Université́ de Poitiers in 1994, followed by the Université́ de Toulon in 1999, where he headed the sports ergonomics laboratory.ergonomie sportive, before joining the Université Nice Sophia Antipolis in 2010, where he created and directs the "Motricité Humaine, Expertise Sport Santé" Laboratory (LAMHESS). His research work has focused on substrate management during exercise and relationships with brain function in application to high-level performance sport or aging. He has published numerous international articles in the fields of exercise physiology, neuroscience and psychophysiology. He is an expert on several national and international bodies and assessment committees in the fields of life and health sciences, public health and sports sciences. He was Dean of the Faculty of Sport Sciences from 2014 to 2016, when he took on the responsibility of Vice-Chairman of the Nice Sophia Antipolis University Research Commission and Research Vice-Chairman of the CoMue Université Côte d'Azur.

Since 2020, he has been President of Université Côte d'Azur, one of only 9 French universities to have been awarded the "Université d'Excellence" label.
